Hi there! Welcome to my website! Let me tell you a bit about myself and what I do…
I’m Dan, I was born in London, and I’ve been teaching English as a second language for over twenty five years to students from all around the world in various countries, including the UK, Brazil, Mexico, Spain and China.
My professional qualifications include:
- MA in English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics, King’s College London
- BA (Hons) in Communication, Bournemouth University
- Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults, International House Barcelona
I’ve taught monolingual and multilingual groups, both in the classroom and online, although much more of my teaching these days is now remote, via Zoom, Meet, Teams or Skype.
Being in the classroom is a lot of fun, but I’m actually a big fan of teaching online. I love the flexibility and immediacy for both the teacher and student.
As well as general and business English, I have been teaching English for Academic Purposes within the British university system for twenty years. I have also taught IELTS exam preparation, and I was an IELTS examiner in London for several years.
Whether you’re looking to improve your English language skills for pleasure or for a more specific purpose, such as developing your career or succeeding at university, I can help you with that!
My most recent online project is LEARN ENGLISH with Dan, where I produce interactive quiz lessons that focus on real, authentic English to help students learn how we really use the language in a fun and engaging way. These learning materials cover general, academic, and business English.
I have also been producing self-study video and audio lessons for several years through my YouTube channel and podcast ANGLOPOD, as well as my own educational streaming site, ANGLOPOD.COM, providing English tuition on demand. The aim of these lessons is to explain all the key points in English grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.
I love creating engaging, animated videos to help students understand the complexities of the English language. I also love podcasting as a teaching tool. It’s a lot easier (and cheaper) than spending years in a language school, right?
My aim as a teacher is always to help students develop their language skills and build their confidence at the same time. I make sure that very quickly my students feel able to use English in a natural way.
I get my students to enjoy learning as much as possible. If you like what you’re doing, it’s a lot easier to learn, I think.
As for me personally, I’m both a teacher and a student of languages. As well as my native English, I speak fluent Portuguese, advanced Spanish, intermediate French, and basic Italian. I hope to add to that list soon!
I love music too. I’m trying to learn the guitar and the piano at the moment. I also love hiking, swimming, football, hot weather and even hotter food!
From the beginning of 2025, I plan to offer one-to-one and group classes online, so if you really want to improve your English, you will be able to book lessons with me. Check back here soon for more details!
